Together with fellow artists 服部州恵 and 小泉恵一, I join a conversation in painting and sculpture that begins with Christmas and looks toward the hope revealed in Revelation. We are shaping a shared space for beauty, contemplation, and worship.服部州恵さん、小泉恵一さんと共に、クリスマスから始まり、黙示録に示された希望へと目を向ける、絵画と彫刻の対話に参加します。美しさを味わい、黙想し、礼拝するための空間を共につくります。

MEET THE ARTIST作家プロフィール
An artist, illustrator and storyteller based in Ōme, Tokyo. Born in Okinawa and raised in the United States, Graham returned to Japan in 2001 and began exploring abstract art in 2012.東京・青梅を拠点に活動するアーティスト、イラストレーター、ストーリーテラー。沖縄に生まれ、アメリカで育ち、2001年に日本へ戻りました。2012年から抽象表現を探求しています。
His practice brings together more than twenty years of creating children’s materials with painting, animation and community. He founded All Nations Art Community and ANACOM Studio Park in Ōme. Through Sacred Reflections, he invites viewers into meditation through color, texture and light.20年以上にわたる子ども向け作品づくりと、絵画、アニメーション、コミュニティ活動を結びつけ、青梅にAll Nations Art CommunityとANACOM Studio Parkを設立。「聖なる黙想」では、色、質感、光を通して、見る人を黙想へと誘います。

ENTERING THE VISION幻の中へ
My meditation begins by imagining myself beside John. I hear the voice, turn with him, and try to remain with what he sees: the Son of Man among seven golden lampstands, clothed in light, dignity, and mystery.私の黙想は、ヨハネの傍らに自分を置くことから始まります。その声を聞き、彼と共に振り向き、彼が見たものの前に留まろうとします。七つの金の燭台の間に立つ、人の子のような方。光と威厳、そして神秘をまとった姿です。
I turn toward the beauty of that encounter through color, texture, and light. Drawing inspiration from Nihonga and the Impressionists, I let layered surfaces and luminous color carry the meditation. The new vertical format gives the gaze room to travel, to pause, and to rise.その出会いの美しさを、色、質感、光を通して見つめます。日本画と印象派に着想を得ながら、重なり合う画面と光を帯びた色に黙想を託します。新しい縦長の形式は、まなざしが巡り、留まり、上へと向かうための余白を生みます。

John turns toward a voice and finds a presence. A long robe, a band of gold: the vision begins with someone standing among the lampstands. In these pale, weathered layers, I linger over the quiet dignity of that encounter.ヨハネは声のする方へ振り向き、そこに立つ方の姿を見ます。長い衣、金の帯。幻は、燭台の間に立つ一人の姿から始まります。淡く、時を重ねたような層の中で、その出会いの静かな威厳を見つめています。
02 A PAINTED MEDITATION絵画による黙想
White like wool, white like snow—and eyes like fire. I stay with the wonder of these images held together. Softness and intensity share the same presence; gold and white become a place to contemplate a beauty that both comforts and awakens.羊毛のように、雪のように白く、そして目は燃える炎のように。これらのイメージが一つに重なる不思議に、心を留めます。やわらかさと強さが同じ存在の中に宿る。金と白は、慰めながら目を覚まさせる美しさを黙想する場所になります。
03 A PAINTED MEDITATION絵画による黙想
Bronze refined in a furnace. A voice like mighty waters. Here, the meditation moves from what John sees to what he hears. Deep blue and burnished color hold a sense of weight and resonance, as though stillness itself were carrying the sound.炉で精錬された青銅。大水のとどろきのような声。ここで黙想は、ヨハネが見たものから、聞いたものへと移ります。深い青と磨かれたような色が、重みと響きをたたえています。静けさそのものが、音を運んでいるかのように。
